Maybe the Lord should use the New International Version

chrisCharles Swindoll, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Insight for Living and author of more than 70 books

Even though evangelicals are starting to dump it for the ESV, the NIV is still a bestseller––over 400 million sold.  And talk about endorsements…

The NIV is wonderfully accurate according to the manuscripts of the Scriptures. It is reliable. And because it is accurate, it holds up under close scrutiny. It clearly is the Bible of choice for English speaking and reading people around the world.

Just what kind of man was the Lord?

That depends on which Bible you believe.

Take a look…

Mark 1:41
NIV (©1984) Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!”
NIV (©2011) Jesus was indignant. He reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!”

The Lord went from being “filled with compassion” to “indignant” in 27 years.

If you’re upset by this reading, can you imagine how the Lord feels?

Would the Lord use a Bible that calls him a liar?

Lying used to be a sin…

John 7:8,10

Matthew 5:22

NIV (©2011) But I tell you that anyone who is angry _____________ with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment
NKJV (©1982) But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment…

OOPS … The NIV doesn’t have the exception “without a cause.” (Maybe they were … Read More »

How many times did Jesus say you should forgive your brother?

Matthew 18:22
NIV (©1984) Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” [77 times]
ESV (©2001) Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven.” [490 times]

There you go; two bestselling versions. What they say isn’t even close.

So how many times should you forgive your brother?

What did the Lord say; 490 or 77? It can’t be both. One is correct the other is an error. (Even if the Lord is using hyperbole, he could only have said … Read More »
