How many times did Jesus say you should forgive your brother?

Matthew 18:22
NIV (©1984) Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” [77 times]
ESV (©2001) Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven.” [490 times]

There you go; two bestselling versions. What they say isn’t even close.

So how many times should you forgive your brother?

What did the Lord say; 490 or 77? It can’t be both. One is correct the other is an error. (Even if the Lord is using hyperbole, he could only have said one or the other at this particular time.)

One verse contains God’s words, the other is counterfeit; nothing more than men’s words added after the book of Matthew was written.

Only the Lord knows for sure which verse belongs to him and which one is the forgery. Does he want you to know the truth? Which Bible do you think contains his true words?

Here’s the way Matthew 18:22 is presented in the King James Bible:

Matthew 18:22
King James Bible 1611 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.  [490 times]

Which Bible would Jesus use? That’s easy. It’s the one he’s been using for the past 400 years; the one that’s had billions of copies printed, that’s been translated into over 760 languages, that’s read more than any other Bible, and has influenced more people than any other book on the face of the earth.

If the Lord was a sinner, we’re all doomed. How shall one sinner die in place of many sinners?
