Maybe the Lord should use the New International Version

chrisCharles Swindoll, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Insight for Living and author of more than 70 books

Even though evangelicals are starting to dump it for the ESV, the NIV is still a bestseller––over 400 million sold.  And talk about endorsements…

The NIV is wonderfully accurate according to the manuscripts of the Scriptures. It is reliable. And because it is accurate, it holds up under close scrutiny. It clearly is the Bible of choice for English speaking and reading people around the world.

Alas, despite the glowing recommendations; look what happens if the Lord uses the NIV to teach…

The doctrine of
inerrancy of the Scriptures

2 Samuel 21:19
400 million NIVs (©1984) say: In another battle with the Philistines at Gob, Elhanan … killed Goliath …
All the new NIVs (©2011) say: In another battle with the Philistines at Gob, Elhanan…killed the brother of Goliath…

Every kid knows David killed Goliath, and yet Dr. Swindoll recommends the ©1984 NIV, which has Elhanan killing Goliath. Four hundred million of these NIV Bibles were printed this way.

But in 2011 it turns out that Elhanan killed the brother of Goliath.

Talk about a three-ring circus.

Same verse … Same Bible … Saying two DIFFERENT things.

We assume the first 400 million were in error. Has the publisher issued a recall? Can you get a prorated refund? If the Lord’s going to use the NIV, how does he deal with this problem?

This isn’t good. Both Bibles are supposed to be the “word of the Lord.” But how can they be?

Crazy isn’t it?

If he came to teach at your church, why would the Lord use the NIV?
“Which King James Bible do you use 1611 or 1769?”
Just what kind of man was the Lord?
